Kinematic Pavilion @ ARCH:ID

Designed by Helen Agustine Studio

2024

ARCH:ID Best Booth Awards Winner 2024.

The architectural industry is grappling with a fast-paced and ever-evolving society, leading to transient public spaces and rapidly changing building materials. Design must embrace adaptability to treat change as an opportunity instead of a threat.

This installation fosters a fluid relationship between architecture and movement, crafting a versatile and transformable space for diverse community activities. Inspired by the concept of a camera aperture, the structure transitions effortlessly from an open to an enclosed circular space, creating a 360-degree backdrop for an immersive experience. The collaborative effort includes experimenting with sustainable materials like patinated copper cladding that ages gracefully, engineered wood veneer, and fabric waste repurposed into woven blinds.

The installation views people and performers as living art, encouraging interaction and reshaping of the space as needed, with a kinetic system enhancing the interactive backdrop. The primary goal is to strengthen the bond between people and architecture, fostering a sense of place. The Kinematic Pavilion showcases the synergy of architectural innovation, sustainable practices, and technological integration, inviting communities to actively reinvent and reimagine their environment through a resilient space capable of meeting ever-changing needs.
